Softball: Loyola defense blanks Maine South
SOFTBALL: On days when your pitcher doesn’t have her best stuff, you’d better play rock-solid defense and scratch out some runs. That’s exactly what Loyola (22-7) did in a 3-0 win over Maine South (14-21), in a Class 4A regional title game Saturday.
Boys Track: Loyola’s Ford filled with confidence after defeating Later
BOYS TRACK: Todd Ford accomplished something no one else in the state has been able to do this season. The Loyola senior beat New Trier’s Leland Later in the 1,600-meter run last week at the Loyola sectional.

GIRLS LACROSSE: Sarah Soleiman and Kerry Spence are program players. The two Loyola seniors waited their turn until getting finally a chance to contribute this season. Both are taking advantage of the opportunity this spring.

BOYS TRACK: New Trier’s Eric Underwood helped Peter Cotsirilos, Patrick O’Reilly and Leland Later qualify the 3,200-meter relay qualify for the state meet.

Boys Tennis: Galoustian, Trevians ready to do battle at State
BOYS TENNIS: New Trier sophomore Alex Galoustian won the singles title at the Trevians’ own sectional, and the entire team made state after earning the sectional crown.
Girls Soccer: Cahill the difference for New Trier defense
GIRLS SOCCER: Molly Cahill was playing forward for her club soccer team last November when she collided with the opposing goalie as both went for the ball. In the process, Cahill suffered a serious concussion, which forced her to miss weeks of school.

GIRLS SOCCER: Loyola Academy girls soccer coach Craig Snower distinctly remembers sophomore Tori Iatarola, who’s now playing a vital role for the Ramblers, as a 6-year-old running around after the conclusion of her older sister’s soccer games at Loyola.

BASEBALL: North Shore Country Day’s Chris McCarren scored the tying run in the sixth inning, and the winning run in the eighth, in a 5-4 win over Northridge Prep in an IHSA Class 1A regional final on the Raiders’ own field Saturday.
