Fawcett places fourth at national tourney

Winnetka’s Tom Fawcett finished fourth at the USTA National Winter Championships in the Boys’ 18 Singles competition. Fawcett, 17, is a junior at New Trier.

The tournament, which was held in Scottsdale, Ariz., took place from Dec. 27-Jan. 2.

Fawcett won five straight matches to reach the semifinals before losing to David Hsu 6-4, 7-6 (4). Fawcett then fell to Henry Craig (6-3, 6-2) in the third-place match.
