New Trier senior Courtney Ackerman recently was named Gatorade Illinois Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
The Illinois-bound Ackerman won four invitationals during her senior season with the Trevians and finished third at the Class 3A meet. She then finished sixth at the Nike Cross Nationals and 17th at the Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals.
“Courtney emerged as perhaps the most talented runner in school history during her freshman year,” New Trier coach John Burnside said in a press release. “She’s almost peerless in her dedication to work, competition and every other aspect of athletics, but to her, personal achievement has always taken a backseat to team success.”
As a junior, Ackerman helped the Trevians to the program’s first-ever state championship. New Trier finished fourth in Class 3A her senior year.
