CHICAGO — Back-to-back 3-pointers by Resurrection junior guard Alyssa Ruehl to start the fourth quarter turned a tight girls basketball game with visiting Regina in favor of the Bandits, who rolled from there to post a 62-52 win.

With Resurrection leading 47-45 after three quarters Monday, Ruehl brought the crowd to its feet with the pair of treys, both of which swished through the net. Ruehl, one of three Bandits to score in double figures, finished with 13 points. Junior forward Kate Moriarty tallied a team-high 15 points, and junior guard Liz Rehberger added 11.

“Those 3s turned the momentum in the game,” said Resurrection coach Keith Miniscalco, whose squad improved to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in GCAC Red play. “We drew up some plays at halftime — we switched our offense because Regina knew what we were doing — and as I said at the beginning of the season, if someone’s going to have the ball when we need (a basket), it’s going to be Alyssa Ruehl.”

Regina, which fell to 13-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play, jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the first quarter, but saw it shrink to 16-15 entering the second. The score was tied 32-32 at halftime.

Panthers coach Kerry Durham, who coached at Resurrection from 1999-2009 before taking the Regina helm prior to the 2011-12 season, acknowledged that Ruehl’s pair of 3s served as a turning point. However, she blamed her own team’s lack of focus for the final outcome.

“We made too many mental errors,” Durham said. “We fought hard, but careless turnovers, not finding shooters and closing out — those kinds of mistakes will kill ya in the end.”
