WINNETKA — Brittani Steinberg didn’t hold back Saturday when talking about her New Trier volleyball team.

The senior outside hitter wasn’t afraid to pour on the praise, even if it might mean bulletin-board material for other clubs.

“We have so much potential,” Steinberg said. “In practice, you can only play so well. We really strutted our stuff at this tournament, and we are excited to keep playing and show everybody what we have.”

The Trevians went 5-0 at their own Summer’s End Tournament, beating Trinity 25-11, 25-21 in the championship match. New Trier trailed 21-20 in the second game before running off the final five points with Steinberg putting down the last kill.

It was the Trevians’ third consecutive championship at the tournament.

“It’s really nice to have a three-peat,” said Steinberg, a three-year varsity veteran who also has been a part of two regional titles and a sectional title in 2010.

Steinberg finished with a team-best five kills in the final, while junior setter Taylor Tashima, one of the best players in the country, had 14 assists and four kills.

The Trevians (6-0) didn’t lose a game and allowed an average of 16.2 points per game this tournament.

“We mixed things up,” New Trier coach Hannah Hsieh said. “This is a tournament that I figure out which lineup is best for us.”

Trinity dropped to 6-3 on the season.

Loyola (7-2) beat Glenbrook North (5-2) 25-17, 25-17 to take third place.
