It isn’t too tough to get U.S. Rep. Bob Dold going. Just ask the 10th Congressional District Republican representing the North Shore whether he’s affiliated with the Tea Party, as his opponent, Brad Schneider, a Democrat, has repeatedly said in mailings throughout the district. Dold walks intently across the length of his Highland Park campaign office, stretching out a printed voting analysis of Congress members published by the Washington Post. He points to his name, which, in a long list of names, is toward the bottom of the rankings. The percentage of times he voted with Republicans on key votes: … ]]> Mon, 29 Oct 2012 11:56:32 -0500 http://winnetka.suntimes.com/news/politics/15633197-505/pricey-race-pits-dold-vs-schneider.html http://winnetka.suntimes.com/news/politics/15633197-505/pricey-race-pits-dold-vs-schneider.html <![CDATA[ County commissioners give preliminary OK to new district map ]]>

A proposed map redrawing boundaries for the Cook County Board of Commissioners districts received overwhelming preliminary approval Friday. Fifteen of the 17 commissioners signed off on the plan, which is slated for a final vote Tuesday. The lone dissenting vote came from Commissioner Earlean Collins (1st District), who has voiced concerns that population shifts could result in the African-American community losing one of its five seats on the board, which has a total of 17 commissioners. Collins did not return calls seeking comment on Friday. Commissioner William Beavers (4th) did not vote on the proposal. If approved on Tuesday, the … ]]> Tue, 19 Jun 2012 16:26:16 -0500 http://winnetka.suntimes.com/news/politics/13212737-418/county-commissioners-give-preliminary-ok-to-new-district-map.html http://winnetka.suntimes.com/news/politics/13212737-418/county-commissioners-give-preliminary-ok-to-new-district-map.html <![CDATA[ Romney to collect $2.3 million at Winnetka fund-raiser hosted by Pat Ryan ]]>

An audience jam-packed mostly with teens welcomed three of the four Democratic candidates in the 10th Congressional District race Wednesday night at Stevenson High School. Sen. Then the Highland Park Republican can begin physical therapy. “Sen. Chicago-area ministers want a voice in the planned overhaul of the troubled Cook County morgue and are asking to meet with board President Toni Preckwinkle. “If you don’t hold people’s feet to the fire, the problems don’t go away,” the Rev. Democrat and Evanston attorney Jeff Smith announced he will withdraw his candidacy today from the 17th state House district. Citing reasons, Smith said the district’s redrawing in May 2010 did not provide enough “time for a real primary discussion.” The Primary Election is March 20. “The unusually short schedule instead sets up a battle of branding, mainly purchased, with unacceptable levels of political casualties,” he said in an email. “Suspending my campaign will free up many important resources for many other political, professional, and personal projects in which I and others were invested when this race suddenly arose.
