Every day is Mother’s Day for Karin Balsbaugh of Northfield. “Well, we’re thinking about our children and other people’s children,” she said, with a smile. We caught up with Balsbaugh at Rebuilding Together Day in Highland Park, where she joined fellow volunteers of Kenilworth Union Church.

WINNETKA — Reading has been Carly Jennings’ passion since her mother Ruth first read to her when she was young. The 11-year-old Winnetka resident began looking at Bat Mitzvah projects and last year decided to use her love of reading to provide help for another one of her passions; riding horses.

As we age experts say it is important to focus on the quality of life. A local conference is focusing on “Aging Well.” For 15 years, a group of community organizations have come together, with the City of Evanston, to present strategies for healthy aging for older adults, their families, caregivers and professionals. This free event is a true community partnership, according to organizers.
