A special day of service

The Kindness Connection and The Volunteer Center would like to thank the nearly 400 participants who attended our Martin Luther King Day of Service on Jan. 16. Together, the enormous crowd made the day off a day “on” in service to those facing crises in their lives. The group produced over 1,000 lovingly made goods for ten nonprofits and their clients, including: Project Linus, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly, Connections for the Homeless, The Night Ministry, NorthShore University HealthSystem, Orphans of the Storm, Heartland Animal Shelter, New Trier Food Pantry, Hines VA Hospital, and various nursing homes. Congratulations, too, to those parents who worked along side their children to help others.
Special thanks go to New Trier High School for the great accommodations and to Kim and Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels for their generous donation of pretzels. The Volunteer Center would is also grateful to Make It Better, North Shore Community Bank and the Winnetka Community House, as well as its 47 other Community Partners. The Kindness Connection is grateful for all of its loyal friends and supporters.
Dr. King wisely said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing to help others?” How gratifying it is to live in a community where that question is answered so often and mindfully. We hope people keep both organizations in mind as they look for additional ways to serve throughout their lives.
