New Trier opts out of new PARCC assessment

New Trier will not be participating in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers new core assessment in 2014. According to the Chicago Tribune:

For New Trier Township High School District 203 Superintendent Linda Yonke, concerns that students will lose valuable classroom instructional time led to a decision not to participate in a spring 2014 field test of the new common core PARCC assessment.

"We had a choice in whether or not our students would take the PARCC field test in the spring and we said 'no,'" Yonke said. "They are asking us to test 3,000 students at the same time, which is staggering. Even worse, it would be a real disruption to our instructional time to have students take a test that we don't yet know is a reliable or valued assessment."
