NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Caucus has nominated their candidates to fill the village president and village trustee seats for the April 2012 election.
At their Oct. 11 meeting caucus members were introduced to their choices: Incumbent Village President Fred Gougler, and for the three open trustee seats, current trustees Jane Goldenberg, Brian Kozminski and George Warga.
The caucus also nominated John Gregorio to fill a two-year term as the permanent replacement for Trustee John Chapin, who resigned earlier this year.
“We accomplished a lot the last four years and we have a lot to do moving forward,” Gougler said. “We have a new set of circumstances with the reconstruction of Willow Road, our storm water needs and economic development, which is important to us.”
Goldenberg echoed Gougler’s statements of monitoring the Willow Road reconstruction project as well as keeping stormwater management projects a high priority.
“As the Willow Road development moves forward it will be incumbent of the village to monitor IDOT’s work,” Goldenberg said. “I’m excited myself for a new, pedestrian-friendly Willow Road and a far more walkable downtown, enabling us to attract more businesses.”
Goldenberg said the board must find ways to raise the police pension funding level, saying the pension crisis must be taken up by the state legislature. Kozminski agreed.
“Who knows what’s going to come out of Springfield the next four years,” Kozminski said. “We need to be ready to face those challenges.”
Gregorio pledged to, “get up to speed,” by May so he can, “hit the ground running,” while Warga, who was absent, had a prepared statement read by caucus member Al Chircop.
“I appreciate the confidence you placed in me,” Gregorio said. “I want to do all I can as a trustee to enhance and serve the community as best I can.”
Northfield residents will be voting for the village president and four trustee positions in the consolidated election April 9, 2013.
