WINNETKA — Growing up in southwest suburban Oak Lawn as a lover of books and her local library, Rebecca Wolf’s own mother said her daughter was “destined to be a librarian.”
At their March 11 board meeting, the trustees of the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District added another chapter to Wolf’s destiny when they appointed her to become their new library director, replacing interim director Juli Janovicz.
Wolf now serves as assistant library director for the Deerfield Public Library and will take on her new role April 15.
“My main goal is to build on the tradition of excellence that the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library has established,” Wolf said. “My plan is to spend the first few weeks getting to know the community, our partners and the wonderful staff.”
An undergraduate at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, Wolf earned her masters of library and information science degree from Dominican University. Prior to joining the Deerfield library in 2007 she was the circulation manager at the Lincolnwood Public Library.
When she learned of the job’s opening Wolf cited the community as one of the main appeals of the Winnetka-Northfield Library, but is also sad to be leaving her staff in Deerfield.
“The community’s appreciation of library services as well as the board and staff’s commitment to reaching every member of the community to provide innovative services,” Wolf said of what drew her to Winnetka and Northfield. “I have worked with many amazing people. I continue to be inspired and challenged by my colleagues, which is one of the great aspects of the library profession.”
Wolf says she looks forward to finding new and innovative ways to deliver library services to the district’s 17,500 Winnetka and Northfield residents.
“Public libraries today operate in an environment of tremendous change,” said Board President Bob Sanfilippo in a statement. “With her strong track record in library technology and service we are confident that under Rebecca’s guidance our libraries will continue to meet the evolving needs of our residents.”
Residents are invited to meet Wolf at a reception from noon to 2 p.m. April 14 at the Winnetka Library, 768 Oak St.
