WINNETKA — After 33 years in Kenilworth, the New Trier Republican Organization officially moved their headquarters to Winnetka this week.
With the move, NTRO will occupy space at 460 Winnetka Ave., which is close in proximity and just across the street from New Trier High School.
“It’s exciting to move forward to a new location,” said NTRO Committeeman Bill Cadigan. “The one we left had a lot of history and some great memories, but we’re looking forward to making more great memories and history at the new spot.”
Cadigan said the move will benefit the organization by being so close to the high school and the Indian Hill Metra Station, as well as being able to offer more off-street parking than their former Kenilworth location.
According to Cadigan, political organizations like the NTRO are using more computer technology to reach voters and a large office was no longer needed. Rather than call it downsizing, Cadigan said the NTRO was “right-sizing” to accommodate their current needs.
“Back in the days when those kinds of arrangements were permitted, the local state senator, my predecessor, an attorney and the local political organization used to have one office,” Cadigan said. “That came to an end in the mid-1990s. Your real estate now is the internet and social media.”
Cadigan said it was important to maintain a physical location within the community and hopes being across the street from the high school will inspire more young people to become politically active and volunteer their time.
“Many kids will see our new location and hopefully knock on our door, come in and help us with some of the volunteer activities we have going on,” Cadigan said. “We have great visibility and we’re excited about the move.”
With 2014 elections including a gubernatorial race and a United State Senate seat Cadigan said the office will be looked to as a leader for the Republican party in the north and northwest suburbs.
