WNNETKA — Police on Thursday announced that they have made an arrest in one of the many burglaries that have occurred in the village in recent weeks.

According to a department release, Steven R. Chuk, 23, of Lake Forest, was arrested on Sept. 11 and subsequently charged with burglary and felony possession of stolen property.

Chuk was charged in connection with a burglary first reported to police on Aug. 31. According to a police report, an employee at a business on the 900 block of Green Bay Road discovered that someone had forcefully broken into the business between 2 p.m. Aug. 24 and 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30 and stole a 42-inch Vizio television from a storage area. The TV was valued at $450.

On Aug. 27 Winnetka police also issued an alert to residents after six residential burglaries occurred in the village over a two-week period. Police would not say if Chuk was suspected in any other burglaries.

“We want to provide the community with the information that the burglaries are being heavily investigated,” Winnetka Deputy Police Chief Joe Pellus said. “We were able to ID an offender in this case, make an arrest and charges were applied.”

Chuk was taken Thursday to the 2nd District Cook County Courthouse, 5600 Old Orchard Road, Skokie, and a judge set his bond at $75,000. Chuk’s next scheduled court date is Sept. 21.
