Winnetka trustee Spinney charged with DUI in Skokie

WINNETKA

Village Trustee Jennifer Spinney was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after being stopped in Skokie, police said.

According to Skokie Police Sgt. Mike Healy, Spinney was stopped and arrested by at 1:40 a.m. Sept. 6 in the 9200 block of McCormick Boulevard, near the intersection of McCormick and Church Street. The stop came a few hours after she attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new business in the Village of Winnetka.

According to Healy, reading from the police report, Spinney was first observed at 1:14 a.m. driving east on Dempster Street and turned onto northbound McCormick Boulevard driving 25 mph in a 40 mph zone.

Spinney’s passenger side tires, ran into the curb side, and her vehicle drove into the center lane before she was stopped, Healy said.

Spinney was pulled over

Spinney allegedly told police she was coming from a party in Chicago and trying to get home. Police described her as having, “bloodshot/watery eyes, slurred/mumbled/slow/confused speech and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage about her breath.”

Spinney was described by police as being, “very talkative,” with her statements being, “incoherent and irrelevant.” The report states Spinney kept repeating, “I just want to get home,” when asked to exit her vehicle and perform sobriety tests. Police said she showed impairment on several sobriety tests.

Spinney allegedly refused all chemical tests, including a Breathalyzer. Spinney posted bond Thursday morning and has an Oct. 19 court date at the Cook County 2nd Municipal District Courthouse.

In addition to being charged with DUI, Spinney was cited for improper lane use and making an improper turn.~.
