Metra unveils new train tracker system

Updated: October 24, 2012 10:09PM

Metra riders will be able to get precise arrival and departure times via a new train tracker system, the transit agency announced Thursday.

The tracker featured on Metra’s website will tell riders if a train is on schedule. If not, it will tell them how much they may have to wait by giving them a new estimated departure time.

It is different from e-mailed alerts, so if a train is supposed to leave at 8:30 a.m. and is four minutes behind, the tracker will tell riders the train is now estimated to leave at 8:34 a.m., Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.

The CTA began its train tracker system in January 2011.
