Skokie police chase wanted man into Winnetka

A telephone call to Skokie police Friday about a vehicle parked in an unauthorized space led to a high-speed chase that ended in a man’s capture in Glencoe.
Police said they received a call at 10:40 a.m. Friday about a vehicle parked in a private space at 4603 Main St., without the owner’s permission. After checking the vehicle’s registration, police said, they learned that the owner had an outstanding warrant from the FBI for aggravated robbery for an earlier bank robbery in McHenry County.
The owner also was wanted for issues concerning deportation, police said.
Police followed the driver as he pulled away from the Skokie parking space and headed south. The driver, refusing to pull over when police sounded their sirens, led police on a winding chase through side streets and major streets as he traveled toward the city.
Police said he blew several red lights on both Howard Street and Oakton Street before traveling into Chicago and entering the Edens Expressway from Peterson Avenue. The driver then traveled north on the expressway, before exiting Lake Street and traveling east into Winnetka, police said.
With two Skokie squad cars in pursuit, the driver pulled into a parking garage at 1101 Merle St. in Winnetka before bolting from his vehicle on foot. He was arrested a short time later at 63 Green Bay Road in Glencoe, police said.
Mohammed Nusrath Ali Khan, 41, of 1870 Peach Tree Lane, Algonquin, was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police and was turned over to the FBI.
