Winnetka and Northfield police blotters for May 31, 2012

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Winnetka and Northfield police departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

Winnetka

BURGLARY

A resident of the 400 block of Sunset Road reported May 23 that jewelry was taken from the home between May 6 and May 8. The amount of the loss was not specified.

THEFT

A Rock Hopper mountain bike valued at $500 was stolen Sunday from an open garage on the 800 block of Ash Street. The victim said two males took the bike while the overhead door was open. One rode off on the bike, while the other ran from the scene.

FRAUD

A woman residing on the 100 block of Indian Hill Road reported May 21 that someone had attempted to open a checking account in her name. The victim notified the three major credit bureaus and placed fraud alerts on her credit files.

A man living on the 700 block of Foxdale Avenue reported May 21 that someone used his name and social security number to file income tax returns for 2010. The victim filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and notified the three major credit bureaus about placing a fraud alert on her credit files.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Winnetka Water and Electric reported May 21 that one or more vandals had spray-painted a design resembling a Rubik’s Cube on an electric utility box at Humboldt and Prospect avenues. Utility workers took photographs and removed the graffiti.

A resident of the 500 block of Meadow Road heard a loud crackling noise at about 2 a.m. Friday, and discovering later that morning that a fence on the perimeter of the yard had been damaged.

RECKLESS DRIVING

A 19-year-old Winnetka man was arrested early Friday for criminal damage to property and reckless driving after he allegedly drove into multiple trash cans on the 600 block of Hill Road. Justin R. Hundley, of 1314 Sunview Lane, is due in court June 28.

DRUG CHARGE

Christopher K. Athing, 19, of Atlantique, New York was cited for possession of marijuana following an arrest May 23 on the 400 block of Hawthorn Lane. Athing is due in court June 12.

A 16-year-old male was arrested at New Trier HIgh School’s Winnetka campus Friday and cited for possession of marijuana. The teen’s court data is June 12.

Northfield

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

Shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday, a police officer discovered that a sink had been pulled away from the wall in the men’s restroom at Fox Meadow Park at Waukegan and Willow roads. Police believe the vandalism occurred some time between 3 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday. Damage has been estimated at $300. The case is under investigation.

THEFT

A resident of The Landmark reported to Northfield police May 22 that a package sent from California in February never arrived. FedEx records showed that the package was delivered on Feb. 10. The contents of the package, consisting of personal belongings, were valued at $1,000.
