A 63-year-old Niles woman was injured Thursday night in a car crash with a Wilmette man who has been charged with DUI, Northfield police officials reported.
Steven G. Lustig, 53, of 3223 Lake Ave., #15C, in Wilmette, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol, disobeying a stop sign and driving with expired registration and insurance. Lustig, who is not related to Northfield Police Chief William Lustig, was driving south on West Frontage Road in a silver 2002 Nissan at about 9:53 p.m. Feb. 2, Northfield authorities said. He allegedly did not stop at the stop sign at West Frontage and Winnetka roads, police officials said. As Lustig drove through the intersection, his car collided with the side of a red 2010 Toyota Camry, which was moving west on Winnetka Road.
Both Lustig and the female driver were taken by ambulance to Evanston Hospital. There were no passengers in either car.
Lustig was treated and released, then taken to the Northfield police station. He went to bond court Saturday. His next court date is Feb. 21.
The Niles woman sustained “severe injuries,” Northfield Police Chief William Lustig said in a prepared statement. She was discharged from the hospital over the weekend.
“Drinking and driving is unacceptable.” The chief, in a prepared statement, “reminds people to call a friend, call a cab, or walk, instead of getting in a vehicle.”
