Chicago Shakespeare 2013 Gala: 5:30 p.m. reception; 6:30 p.m. program, June 3, Chicago Shakespeare Theater on Navy Pier, 600 East Grand Avenue, Chicago. Highlights of the event include the presentation of the third annual “Spirit of Shakespeare Awards,” honoring those who keep the spirit of Shakespeare alive through community service and artistic leadership, and an artistic program of star‐studded performances. Fourth Annual Paws For Life 5K: “Charlene’s Run,” takes place Sunday, June 9, at Lisle Senior High School, 1800 Short St., Lisle. Registration at 6 a.m.; Men’s & Women’s Competitive 5K race (non-chip timing) at 7 a.m.; Pet-friendly, non-competitive Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m.; awards follow. Openlands Celebration/Fundraiser: “Songs of Praise: Celebrating Openlands” Jubilee, 6 p.m. June 15, at the Lakeshore Preserve, Highland Park. Cocktails along the lake bluff, 3-course dinner, program showcasing Openlands’ accomplishments since 1963 and live choral ensemble which will honor Openlands’ work with songs from all five decades of its work.
