Hadassah North Shore Chapter will hold an unwrapped Toy Collection for families in need as a Mitzvah (good deed) Project for 2012. This Chanukah/Holiday season the toys will be given to The Ark for distribution to the children and their families. Drop off is at the North Shore office, 3000 Dundee #313 in Northbrook from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.; 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Fridays. Toys are being collected now. A Silver Lining Foundation Fundraiser Event “Chocolate and Wine”: 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 18, Francesca’s Bellezza at 75 S. La Grange Road, La Grange. Tickets are $25, and include chocolate-inspired tastings that have been expertly crafted by Francesca’s Chef Jorge Avalos using Kokku Chocolate as the main component. The Auxiliary of NorthShore at Highland Park Hospital kick off the KEY TO THE CURE shopping weekend at Saks Fifth Avenue in Highland Park with a cocktail reception from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 18. Midtown Athletic Club in Bannockburn 3rd annual “Kickin’ Parkinson’s, One Lap at a Time”: 8 a.m. to noon, Oct. 28, 2211 Waukegan Rd., just south of Half Day Rd. This charity fundraiser is open to the public and swimmers can swim for up to one hour with starting times assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Lanes will be designated by speed with a maximum of six swimmers per lane. A brunch for all participants will be held from 10 a.m.-noon. Non-Midtown members who participate are welcome to being their families and enjoy Midtown’s facilities complimentary that day. Susan Kauffman of Lake Forest, is the aquatics director at Midtown Athletic Club; she is the mother of two, is 45 years old and has Parkinson’s disease. She was honored in 2010 by actor Michael J. Fox after her first swim-a-thon netted $60,000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research. Individual entry fee is $20 plus a minimum donation of $50 and includes lunch. A family entry fee is $50 with a minimum donation of $150 and includes lunch. Chicago Rhythm Project Jubalee: 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29. This annual gala benefit supports CHRP performance, education and community programs by presenting tap and percussive dance artists from around the world. Please include your photographer’s name so we can give proper credit. We no longer assign photographers to events we don’t cover. Many guests have cameras on their cell phones, and we’re happy to accept those images.
