The Chicago
Botanic Garden

Summer Day Camp: Registration has begun. In addition to the Chicago Botanic Garden’s weeklong summer day camp, Camp CBG now offers full-day camps from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for two weeks for children ages 6-9. Among the camps offered are My First Camp 2 & 3; Green Sprouts; Green Thumbs; Explorer; Adventurers; Leaders in Training; Yoga Bash; and Discover Dance.
Camp CBG: Exciting and enriching learning experiences for children ages 2-12. The Garden offers weeklong camps with morning, afternoon, and all-day options from June 18 to Aug. 17. Online registration is open through June.
Discovery Backpacks: Families can borrow them from the Information Desk in the Visitor Center. They are available year-round and will be loaned out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Butterflies & Blooms: An outdoor butterfly garden lets visitors immerse themselves with live tropical butterflies. Open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, June through Sept. 3, weather permitting. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3-12. Members receive $1 off each price. Combination tickets are available for Butterflies and Blooms and the Model Railroad Garden and cost $8 for adults and $5 for children. Members receive $1 off each ticket price.
The Lenhardt Library: “Rare Seeds, Creative harvest: Artists Books Inspired by the Rare Book Collection” exhibition through Aug. 12. The library hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; from noon-4 p.m. Saturday and by appointment on Sunday.
Fitness walks: Offered from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. through Nov. 17. The cost for four sessions is $38 for members and $46 for nonmembers; eight sessions is $76 for members and $92 for nonmembers; 12 sessions is $114 for members and $138 for nonmembers; 16 sessions for $152 for members and $184 for nonmembers; and a season pass is $285 for members and $345 for nonmembers. Individual rates are $10.
Eight Months of Color for the Garden: 9 a.m.-noon June 16. The cost is $74 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.
Designing with Native Plants: 1-4 p.m. June 16. The cost is $74 for nonmembers and members receive a 20 percent discount.

Clubs
The North Shore Chess: Club meets from 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays at Starbucks, 347 Park Ave., Glencoe. The club has a relaxed, drop-in atmosphere and is open to players, adults and teens at all skill levels. The club doesn’t offer any formal classes but advanced players are always willing to help those who are less experienced. There are no tournaments and no fee. Variety of Illinois: Interested athletes ages 8 to 21, who are pursuing dreams of athletic glory, are invited to apply to the Live to Achieve Program for a $1,000 grant. Applications can be downloaded from Variety of Illinois’ website at varietyofillinois.org. For print copies, call Variety at (312) 822-0660, and an application will be mailed. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Applicants will be notified by mail of Variety of Illinois’ decision, which will take into account overall personality and goals of the applicant, not just sheer athletic talent.
