Loukas takes eighth in Olympic diving final

Christina Loukas has advanced to the Sunday final in the Women's 3M Springboard competition of the 2012 Olympics in London.

Deerfield High School alumna Christina Loukas, 26, finished eighth in Women’s 3M Springboard final on Sunday at the 2012 Olympics in London.

After five dives, Loukas finished with a score of 332.10, placing her behind fellow American Cassidy Krug, who finished seventh with a score of 342.85.

Chinese diver Minxia Wu came into the competition the favorite for the gold medal and won it easily with an overall final score of 414.00

In Saturday’s semifinal, Loukas’ result was 339.75, placing her sixth and qualifying her for the final.

Speaking to an NBC reporter after the semifinal, Loukas vowed she would not hold back in the final, but would “get after everything and be aggressive.”

The silver medalist was He Zi, also from China, who scored 379.20. Laura Sanchez-Soto of Mexico edged Tani Cagnotto of Italy for the bronze medal, with a score of 362.40 to Cagnotto’s 362.20.
