New library director for Winnetka-Northfield resigns

WINNETKA — Three months into her position as director of the Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District, Tena Wilson has announced plans to return to Ohio, where she has accepted a position heading a county library system in the Canton area.
Wilson, who joined the Winnetka-Northfield Library District in late April, said that personal family reasons prompted her decision to return to Ohio, where she has lived for more than 20 years.
Her resignation is effective Aug. 31. The Winnetka-Northfield Library board expects to name an interim by the end of this month. The board plans to reopen the search for a new director, using Corbus Library Consultants, the firm that conducted the search that culminated in Wilson’s selection.
Wilson came from the Cleveland Public Library system, where she was a team manager overseeing the daily operations of 14 libraries and 130 employees, according to the library’s earlier announcement. She’s been hired as executive director of the Stark County District Library System in Canton.
Speaking of her brief time in the Winnetka and Northfield area, Wilson said, “Never have I seen a community more engaged in its support for schools, parks and libraries. It has been my privilege to serve as library director. I expected to be here a long time.”
Board President Bob Sanfilippo said the board is saddened by Wilson’s resignation, but understands and respects her decision.
Library administrator Juli Janovitz served as the interim library director from October of 2011 until Wilson joined the district in late April.
The Winnetka-Northfield Public Library District serves a population of about 18,000 Winnetka and Northfield residents.
