Winnetka and Northfield blotter for July 12, 2012

The following incidents were lis ted among the official reports of the Winnetka and Northfield police departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.
Winnetka
BURGLARY
A Garmin GPS valued at $170 was taken from a locked vehicle on the 600 block of Green Bay Road some time between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. July 2.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of the 200 block of Winnetka Avenue reported July 7 that one or more offenders had made two balance transfers, totaling $27,475, onto a credit card without authorization. The transfers were made between June 11 and June 13.
THEFT
A bicycle and lock were stolen from a rack on the 700 block of Elm Street some time between 10:15 p.m. July 2 and 9 a.m. July 3. The locked bike was an 18-speed, 26-inch mens’ K2 model and had a “cat eye” front light.
A bicycle valued at $350 was stolen from a basement storage room on the 900 block of Green Bay Road some time between 1:30 p.m. July 2 and 10 p.m. July 5. The unlocked bicycle was a mens’ red and black Trek 6700 with a black cargo rack and front shock absorbers.
A taxi driver reported that a customer got out of the cab near Oak Street and Lincoln Avenue July 4 without paying the fare of $60.65. The driver said he picked the customer up in Chicago and arrived at the Winnetka location at about 9:10 a.m..
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Shortly after 3 p.m. July 7, an officer saw a large group of juveniles spray painting bedsheets to use as signs in the vicinity of Wilson St and Winnetka Ave. Paint also was sprayed on the ground. Public works was contacted about removing the paint.
Norhtfield
ALCOHOL
Four teenagers were cited for underage drinking July 9 at a condominium complex on the 1700 block of Northfield Square.
The teens, all 17 years of age, included two Wilmette residents, one Winnetka resident and one Northfield resident. They each were given a breath test, issued a citation for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and released to a parent or other adult. They are due in court Aug. 23.
Police went to the complex at about 9:40 p.m. after a citizen reported that teens were using the pool after hours and possibly drinking.
THEFT
An exterior air conditioning unit valued at $5,000 was stolen from a residence on the 2200 block of Winnetka Road some time between 10 a.m. July 2 and 9 a.m. July 7. The unit was taken off its cement pad.
A woman told police her wallet was taken out of her shopping cart at Dominicks Finer Foods, 1822 Willow Road, during a power outage between 1:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. July 7. The wallet contained credit cards, a drivers’ license and about $120 in cash. A store employee found the wallet, but the cash was missing.
A plastic mailbox was stolen from a residence on the 1900 block of Old Willow Road some time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. July 6.
VANDALISM
A police officer found a portable toilet facility tipped over outside Sunset Ridge School, 525 Sunset Rd., while patroling the area shortly after midnight July 4.
