Winnetka Police blotter for Feb. 9, 2012

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Winnetka and Northfield police departments. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.
Winnetka
THEFT
A student reported Feb. 1 that someone stole a white Apple iPhone 4S 16GB, and a black hooded sweatshirt with a multi-colored design from his unlocked locker in the boy’s locker room of the gymnasium, at New Trier Township High School, at 385 Winnetka Ave. The thief also took two gift cards for Regal Theater and two Pace bus passes. The theft occurred between 3:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. Jan. 30. The stolen items were worth a total of $481.
A thief stole a bicycle from a rack outside New Trier Township High School, at 385 Winnetka Ave., where it was left unlocked between 8 a.m. and 3:25 p.m. Feb. 2. The red, 1980s men’s specialized road bike, was valued at $150. The bicycle is missing the ends of its handlebars.
FRAUD
A resident reported Jan. 30 that someone altered the payee and the amount on several of their personal checks and cashed them for a total of $12,610 on Dec. 19. The checks, from Merrill Lynch, Bank of America, apparently were stolen from outgoing mail at an unknown location.
A resident discovered someone charged four purchases, totaling $5,283, to her Macy’s charge account outside of Illinois on Jan. 4. The crime was discovered Feb. 2.
VANDALISM
Aries Boston, 18, of 936 Arbor Lane, Glenview, was arrested at 8 p.m. Jan. 24 and charged with criminal damage to state-supported property at Crow Island School on Dec. 18. His court date is Feb. 27. The arrest followed the police department’s investigation of multiple acts of vandalism that day.
A 16-year-old and a 17-year-old from New Trier Township, each were charged with four counts of criminal damage to state-supported property on Dec. 18. The vandalism included the damage at Crow Island School, plus damage at Crow Island Woods, Centennial Park, and New Trier High School. The two teenagers went to the police station where they were processed and released to their parents’ custody. Their cases will be heard by a peer jury.
DRIVING OFFENSES
Stanislaw A. Wojdyla, 34, of 2604 Sheehan Court, Naperville, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license and negligent driving at about 8 p.m. Feb. 2 after he drove into the Skokie Lagoons from Forest Way Drive about halfway between Willow and Tower roads. Wojdyla was able to get out of his car without injury, police officials reported. No other vehicles were involved. Wojdyla also was issued a citation for having expired registration. His court date is Feb. 27.
Northfield
VANDALISM
A Glenview man reported someone damaged the rear basement door of a house he recently purchased on the 200 block of Lockwood Avenue in Northfield. It appeared someone had forced in a wooden panel of the door, causing $600 worth of damage, between 3 p.m. Jan. 30 and 5 p.m. Feb. 1. The house was empty as he had not moved in yet.
IDENTITY THEFT
A resident and her daughter reported to the police that someone had taken over the daughter’s Facebook and email accounts and was sending out unauthorized messages with sexual content on Jan. 30 and 31.
STOLEN PROPERTY
A resident found three credit cards in the municipal parking lot, at 1780 Orchard Lane, at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4 and turned them over to the police department. The police found out the cards had been stolen months earlier from a man at the Bally’s Fitness club in Northbrook.
The cards already had been cancelled by the owner.
